Impact of COVID on School Events

Scott Haines —

The limitations on mass-gatherings and events, with the South Island remaining at Alert Level 2, will impact on a number of events in our calendar this term.

We have sought advice from the Ministry of Education regarding the key events on our calendar for Term 4. Unfortunately it appears that there are some inconsistencies between the advice given to schools about what events can operate compared with the guidance provided for gatherings outside of educational setting, nevertheless we continue to follow Ministry advice.

Sadly due to COVID restrictions the Year 12 Semi-Formal planned for Thursday 21 October was cancelled. It is with considerable sadness that we have also had to cancel the Year 13 Graduation Dinner scheduled for 29 October. I very much feel for the students affected by these cancellations.

A number of other events on the calendar for Term 4 will need to be held in a different format and we’ll share news about this as soon as we know more.

Awards Ceremonies/Prizegivings
These events can go ahead under Alert Level 2 however the format will look different. Unfortunately this means only award recipients and staff will be able to attend in person.

The Sports Awards (3 Nov), Arts Awards (4 Nov) and Principal’s Prizegiving (10 Nov) will be recorded for the school community to view. Our two premiere events, the Senior Academic Prizegiving (17 Nov) and Junior Academic Prizegiving (10 Dec) will be live-streamed to our school community.

We understand that this is far from ideal but appreciate your understanding as we work to adhere to the COVID Alert Level 2 requirements. We will share further information about our award ceremonies soon.
