University of Otago Junior Mathematics Competition
Some of our Year 9 and 10 students competed in this competition in Term 3, with some exceptional results being achieved.
The competition is run in two sections. The first section is Maths Skills, completed on the computer. From this, the top students are selected for the Problem Solving section done on paper approximately one month later.
Nationally, 126 schools competed, with 4500 students participating.
In the first section, Waimea College had eight Year 9 and and eleven Year 10 students all receiving Merit.
Selected for the second part, Madeleine Seymour (Year 9) received a Distinction Award, meaning she was in the top 15% of Year 9 students.
And Eise Tijsen placed in the top 30 Year 10 students in New Zealand.
What incredible achievements!! Congratulations and well done to all participants.
