International Manager —

We have had an exciting month here in the International Department.

Waimea College was successful in the July 2022 cohort border exception. We now look forward to welcoming 10 new students in Term 3 from Japan, Thailand, Hong Kong and Europe.

The April school holidays were action packed!

Day One: We put our skills to the test at Xscape Space, where we had to work together to uncover hidden clues and solve puzzles while racing the clock! It was certainly a challenging task to escape!  Followed by a late night movie watching Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.

Day Two: An early start with a day trip to Golden Bay, the rain set in but that did not stop us from fishing at Anatoki Salmon Farm. We all caught a salmon and enjoyed fresh sashimi and smoked salmon at the cafe. We hand fed the giant eels; some of these eels are believed to be over 90 years old! Our final stop was at Te Waikoropupū Springs, it is the largest freshwater springs in New Zealand, and has the clearest water ever measured!

Day Three: Multicultural Food Day, a delicious way to celebrate different cultures. We spent the day preparing dishes from around the world including Spain, Mexico, Japan, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The best part was eating these tasty meals. Even Mr. Haines joined us for a taste test!

Day Four: Fishing at Mapua Wharf, a stunning day where we were able to relax and unwind. Unfortunately no luck catching fish, we did catch some seaweed though! We finished the day with tasty fish and chips.
