Waimea College Sports

Karla Thurlow —

There's been a lot going on over the recent school holidays!

Netball
Well done to our 9A and 10A Netball teams that took part in the Junior South Island Netball Tournament in Christchurch in the first week of the holidays. They all played some fantastic Netball and did Waimea College proud. A huge thank you to Gracie McMillan and Hailey Page-Gargiulo who travelled with the teams as umpires for the tournament, they both did an incredible job.

Well done to Lexie Nisbett, Grace Shirley and Destiny Sproul who all travelled to Hamilton to represent Nelson in the Netball NZ U18 Champs. Unfortunately, Lexie sustained an injury on Day 2, we wish her all the best in her recovery.

The U18 team and U15A teams both finished 1st and the U15 Development team came in 4th. Football
Nelson Suburbs competed in the Alan Fraser Tournament in Kaiapoi. The team included 6 Waimea College students – Ami Bruce, Sian Davies, Amber McConnochie, Abi Platt, Paisley Richardson and Giselle Rynvos. After three days of games the team were crowned champions after winning all six games, scoring 23 goals and conceding none. To play as well as they did and not concede a goal in often difficult (wet and muddy) pitches was a fantastic achievement from the players.

Giselle won Golden Boot (in a tie with a player from South Canterbury) and Amber won Golden Glove.
