Strive Points

Tim Close —

As part of our Positive Behaviour for Learning programme, Waimea College has a reward system designed to recognise the everyday positive contributions our students make to the school.

When a staff member notices a student displaying one of our key values of Caring (Manaakitanga), Belonging (Whanaungatanga) or Learning (Akoranga) they can be awarded a “Strive” point. This can be in the class, where points will be recorded on a roll, or in the school grounds where a student will receive a Strive ticket they can give to their Form Teacher.

Twice a term we check the total Strive points every student in the school has obtained. Parents of students who have gained 10 Strive points will get an email home, a certificate after 20 and a Kiosk voucher or Badge for 30 or more points over the year. All students who gain at least one Strive point are also eligible to gain a randomly drawn Cookie Time Cookie during our assemblies, with 5 awarded per Year Level each assembly.

You can check how many Strive points your child has obtained by looking at “Recognitions” when you sign into the Parent Portal.
