Waimea College was recently invited to Christchurch to join a pool of sixteen teams for an U15 Basketball Tournament.

After some early morning and weekend trainings the boys went south on the last Friday of Term 3.

The team won comfortably in their pool games and quarter-final but were pushed hard in their semi-final by St. Thomas of Canterbury College. In a physical and tense game, the teams were neck-and-neck until the final few minutes when Waimea pulled away to win 62-53.

The final was against Shirley Boys’ High School and Waimea showed superior skill, team play and composure, to get out to an early lead that they never relinquished, winning comfortably 93-69.

The boys all agreed, taking part in any tournament is always great, but going undefeated and winning the whole thing feels even better! A huge thank you to Tim O’Malley for coaching the team and to Anthony Williams for being Team Manager.
