Matariki Celebrations and Sense Rugby!

Matariki Celebration Special Ed Style

The Special Education Department students recently hosted their whānau and friends for an hour of sharing and learning. We learned poi, sung waiata, performed a karakia, shared kai and had lots of fun to celebrate Matariki. This is the third Matariki festival Mrs Drummond has produced with every student participating.

Hiwa-i-te-rangi is the wishing star in the Matariki constellation and the evening culminated with everyone writing a wish on a star to hang on our wishing tree. A great evening, thank you to everyone who came out on the shortest day of the year!

Special Ed Department Makes Sense of Rugby!

Sense Rugby was founded in 2015 in Australia by Occupational therapist, Carlein Parahi and Rugby Sevens Olympian, Jesse Parahi. In 2020, with the support of NZ Rugby, Sense Rugby came to schools in New Zealand.

The Sense Rugby Programme is designed to help kids who usually find it difficult to be part of a sports team. Most students who enjoy this program are those who live with developmental delays and non neurotypical conditions.

Having fun is a key value, along with participation, skill development and team work. Ella was part of the Sense Rugby Programme guided by OT trainer Paula Meer.
Thank you to the Year 10 Leaders.
