Madge Johnston Scholarship Award

Nicola Cruise —

We are honoured to share with you that the late Madge Johnston generously bequeathed funds to Waimea College to provide a Scholarship Award. We thank Madge for her kindness and generosity.

Madge was a highly respected teacher at Richmond Primary School, where she taught from 1953 through to her retirement.  Outside of Madge's teaching career, she had a great passion for golf and was a very talented player; Club Champion at Totaradale Golf Club and a Patron of the Club.  In addition, Madge was instrumental in starting the Richmond Bridge Club and was also a Patron of that Club, playing competitively well into her 90s.

Madge believed education was crucial for everyone and that no one should be denied the privilege of the best schooling.  Her wishes are to provide an annual Scholarship Award that will assist senior students to attend academic tertiary training.

We very much look forward to presenting the inaugural Madge Johnston Scholarship Award to one of our senior students at our Academic Prizegiving Ceremony later this year.
