NCEA External Examination Requirements

Monique van Tiggele —

Monday 7 November – Friday 2 December 2022. Important information about the upcoming NCEA External Exams.

  • Students MUST be there at the correct time and date. There is NO second opportunity to sit an external exam. Students may be let into the exam up to 30 minutes after the start of the exam.

  • Students MUST have their admission slip with them for every exam. If they lose it or forget to bring it, it is the student’s responsibility to download a new copy through their NZQA log-in and get it signed by Ms van Tiggele or Mrs Phipps in the Student Office. NO student will be allowed into the exam room without an admission slip. Admission slips and other information will be given out before students go on exam leave. There is a link to the exam timetable below.

  • Students who have been entered into digital exams need to make sure they bring their own device, fully charged, with notifications turned off. This is a link to the Exam Hub for more information: https://www.nzqa.govt.nz/ncea/ncea/

  • NCEA exam room rules will be strictly enforced. Mobile phones, bus tickets, wallets etc. may be brought into the exam room ONLY if they are in a clear plastic bag which is kept under the student’s chair. All devices must be turned off. The school accepts no responsibility for looking after such items for students. If a student is caught using one such item in the exam room (if the item is not in the clear plastic bag under the chair), it will be confiscated and could lead to Not Achieved grades being awarded by NZQA for every exam paper that the student sat during that exam session. Items may have to be sent to Wellington for inspection.

  • Students are also not allowed to bring in watches of any kind. The school will make sure that there are enough clocks in the exam rooms.

  • If a student is not able to attend an exam due to acute illness or trauma, the school MUST be notified. The student or family member needs to either pick up a copy of the Derived Grade Application Form from Reception and complete the appropriate parts, or Ms van Tiggele could email you the form as an attachment. If it is for medical reasons, the medical part of the forms MUST be completed by the doctor or hospital (this needs to be done as soon as possible). A medical certificate is not sufficient. Please call or email Ms van Tiggele (NZQA Liaison) if you have questions about the derived grades process. Phone number: 03 544 6099 extension 872 or monique.vantiggele@waimea.school.nz

  • Please be aware that the afternoon NCEA exams run from 2-5 pm, so students need to arrange alternative transport on days they sit afternoon exams.
