Mountain Biking
The 2024 Secondary Schools Mountain Bike Nationals were held in Christchurch on 7 – 10 October. There was a fantastic and unified Nelson presence in the village, with all the local schools cheering each other on. The enduro course was tricky, the cross country was gruelling, and the downhill course was straight out terrifying.
An awesome crew of 12 students represented Waimea College and did a great job coming 34th out of 160 schools competing.
A really composed effort from Harley Heyward who came 3rd Overall in U15 Boys.
Shout out to ripper Fletcher Matthews who made a very mature decision to sideline himself after a head knock a couple of weeks earlier.
Huge thanks to the amazing team of parents who marshalled, nursed, doctored, catered, and did a lot of bike repairs.
The Mountain Biking Team included the following students: Torin Barlow, Bruno Browne, Sam Bryant, Brooklyn Collins, Dylan Collins, Josh Graney, Harley Heyward, Jude Malham, Lucas Malham, Fletcher Matthews, Lachie Raymond, and Jack Scott.
