Graeme Smith —

Hello Parents/Caregivers and Friends of Waimea College

Thank you for sending your child to our school.

Thank you for having your faith in us to provide the best life experiences our resources allow for our teenagers.

All students come from families, and we aim to have a family type of culture here too. A big family.

Two advantages of being a big school are the huge opportunities it opens for students to be involved in. At the academic level this means a school like ours can offer a wide range of different subjects students would not get in smaller schools. Unlike most schools our senior students must make six subject choices in their timetable, and this keeps their career options and interests wider, but just as important to me, is that it gives students a wider variety of experiences.

We are still managing our way through the effects of COVID-19 and it has been harder to maintain, develop and promote that Family Culture. It has been harder to maintain the precious relationships we have had what with lockdowns, isolation, and masks.

As a school we are actively using and promoting our 3 Values to build good relationships, and this will help our students as they move into the wider community.

Please keep your relationship open with Waimea College by contacting us whenever you have a concern or just for positive feedback.
