Waimea College —

We had a busy Term 2 break with several teams and individuals travelling to compete at various events around New Zealand.

We love to hear of any news regarding our individual students or sports teams so please keep us informed.

Netball

Our 9A and 10A Netball teams travelled to Christchurch in the school holidays for the Junior South Island Champs, they played some amazing netball against top teams. Our 10A team finished 4th and our 9A team finished 20th. Thanks to all those Coaches, Managers and Parents who made this trip happen.

Orienteering and Rogaine

We had two teams competing in the South Island Secondary Schools Orienteering + Rogaine Champs in Blenheim: Eddie Swain, Cam McLean and Cassie Cameron, Heidi Stephens and Amelia Clarke. The boys team finished 14th overall and the girls finished 16th. Our athletes also achieved the following individual results: Eddie 2nd in the Intermediate Boys, Cassie 7th in the Intermediate Girls and Joseph 4th in the Junior Boys. 

Kartsport

Congratulations to Ollie Workman, Mac Berkett and Lochiel McGregor who took part in the Kartsport National Schools Champs in Tokoroa in the holidays with the following results:

  • 7th Lochiel McGregor in the DVS Junior category
  • 12th Mac Berkett in the Rotax Light category
  • 26th Ollie Workman in the Rotax Junior category

Basketball

Well done to Maia Jones who was selected for the Steven Adams Invitational Basketball Camp, which took place in Wellington in the holidays. Congratulations to both Maia Jones and Hayden Jones who were named in the tournament teams for the U17 and U15 tournament teams respectively.

Gymnastics

During the holidays, Anita Routledge a Year 13 Student was part of the Top of the South Gymnastics Team which attended the week long National Championships in Auckland. This is an annual event and attracted 1000 competitors from all over NZ. Anita placed 1st in Women's Artistic Step 9 Vault which is an outstanding achievement.

Basketball

  • U15 Boys Basketball – William Blight, Jonty Bond, Kaden Bracey, Hayden Jones, Jordy Moore, Noah Rogers, Lucas Trench, Coen Williams.
  • U17 Girls Basketball – Jade Dohmen, Maia Jones, Lucy Macleod, Ella Ranson, Hannah Robertson, Ruby Sharp
  • U18 Netball – Rani McGuire, Brooklyn Collett, Chloe Edwards. Well done to everyone involved.
