Greetings to families and friends of Waimea College

Kia ora everyone, my name is Leon, the Student Trustee on the Waimea College Board of Trustees. I thought that it could be pertinent to provide a student perspective on how Waimea College has fared during the first term of 2022.

As part of our Positive Behaviour for Learning programme, Waimea College has a reward system designed to recognise the everyday positive contributions our students make to the school.

In 2022, Waimea College is supporting the Ministry of Education and NZQA to pilot new literacy and numeracy standards. These standards are being piloted with our Year 10 students.

This year we celebrate 65 years as a school.

Information and advice on future career paths and training opportunities is readily available for all parents and students from Careers staff.

The Special Education department offers a wide range of activities to reflect the diversity of our students' abilities and ages.

Wellbeing is a very broad term which can be defined as ‘feeling good and functioning well’. At Waimea College we explicitly teach wellbeing in Ako lessons, giving students tools to thrive.

The Nelson Marlborough Kahurangi Regional Debating Championships were held recently, using a Zoom format rather than meeting in person.

With a definite chill in the air in the mornings lately, it is time to start thinking winter uniform items.

For parents of Year 11, 12 and 13 students. If your teen intends to pass NCEA Level 1 they will need to achieve 80 or more credits, for Level 2 and 3 they will need to achieve 60 or more credits.

On Monday 4 April 9C, 9D and 9T will be the first of our 2022 Year 9 classes to attend the 5 day camp at Rotoiti Lodge in the Nelson Lakes National Park.
