Anzac Poems from Room 14

Shelley Roberts —

Anzac poem by Lily Copland

Fire, rifles, bombs and guns

18000 New Zealander's down

Lies in letters passed around

Fighting, hiding all around

But we will always remember you

with poppies and love.

ANZAC By Honor Hatley

There was food and no war - THEN there was war and no food.

There was a base and no home - THEN there was home and no base.

There was sleep and no war - THEN there was war and no sleep.

They were alarmed

They were sacrificed…

all I hear is (screams) and (cries)

From above it looked somewhat peaceful, not as scary or as evil,

They act all tough but it’s too much!

From this tree after hitching a ride, a rodent resides watching their demise.

Watching soldiers excited for death, not expecting what might happen next.

An explosion came, followed by dust, incasing them in its gust.

An ambush!

Guns taken out and fired, this, was not desired.

The rodent watched in delight, wondering why they decide to fight.

This is war, the rat must know, there is no mercy and they are the foe.

WAR HORSE

By Holly Burnby

Waking up to the sound of gunshots approaching.

Walking through a warzone.

Watching people bleeding out.

The world beneath me begins to shake, in the distance I can see the ground grow up… up… up… until it bursts.

Galloping to find the fallen soldier.

Praying that we can save our beloved soldiers, praying that we can help them get back home safe and sound to reunite them with their families.

May the trumpets always play on the 25th of April in the early morning sun

Lest we forget.
