"Riding the Covid Wave", Book Progress

Jo Townsend —

In 2020 Waimea Intermediate School students wrote a book about the experiences of our local community during the 2020 lockdown, called "Riding the Covid Wave". We recently relaunched our book for the anniversary of lockdown and have had a great response including the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa stocking our book at the store. Their acknowledgment of the quality of our book by Te Papa has inspired us to have more copies printed and to increase our market efforts.

So Far...

Over the last few weeks, our team of enthusiastic year 7 and 8 WIS students have been promoting our book, by selling it at Paper Plus Richmond and the Saturday Nelson Market. We have also visited Pic’s Peanut Butter World to thank them for hosting our Book Launch.

We have managed to sell over 300 books and with sponsorship we have raised $4205.00 for Waimea Intermediate School.

What Next?

We are now going to promote our book further and hopefully get some feedback from Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern to whom we have sent a copy of the book. If anyone has a background in Marketing or Sales we would love to hear from you.
