Interview with Mr Bruning
Mr Bruning is the Deputy Principal ( D.P ) of Waimea Intermediate School. On his typical day he focuses on the testing and assessments that the students do and works out how the teachers use that information. He likes spending time with the students and he dislikes his job when he gets too busy that he doesn’t have time to be with the kids.
The job as a D.P suits people who can multitask and people who have good listening and communication skills. Deputy Principals also need to be able to get along with all different aged people as you interact with not only kids but parents and teachers.
Mr Bruning learnt these skills over years of teaching, his first class he taught was in 2000. He got his qualifications from doing a 4 year honours degree and 1 year of teachers college. He got the degree at the University Of Canterbury. He also studied Geography.
He think all school subjects are useful. If you would like the job as a D.P and you should also learn other activities such as dance, drama, sport and the outdoors because you most likely will take a class on camp and most subjects include these topics. Mr Bruning thinks it's reasonably easy to get the job as a Deputy Principal, but you have to be pretty good to stay in the position.
