Book Week
Last week was Book Week, what an amazing week we had in the library and around the school!!
The library was a hive of activity with many students coming in to see the library decorated as Diagon Alley from Harry Potter and to take part in the many activities such as:
Students had to guess the daily Book In the Jar and What character is Mrs. Smith?
Some fantastic artwork was entered for the Book Illustration competition.
Most classes participated in the classroom door competition and it was very hard to judge the winners!! Room 1 came first with their Where’s Mr Wingham, Room 22 were 2nd with their Charlie & the Chocolate Factory display, and Room 12 came 3rd with their Lorax display. ALL classes who decorated were fantastic, hopefully these great creativity and artwork displays will stay up longer for everyone to enjoy a bit longer.
All classes went on a Blind Date with a Book to try a different way of choosing a book. All books were wrapped, so they could not see the covers, then students read the first couple lines of the book. They chose the book they liked from reading these first lines and many students chose their “date” for their reading for the week. A great way to introduce new authors or genres and to “mix up’ reading choices.
The whole school costume dress-up day was a fantastic way to end to week and was great to see so many students take part in the fun.
What a great week to celebrate books and reading.
