Wining entry...

The Burden Of Tomorrow

She clasped the vial tightly in her hand, her knuckles whitening. Her fiery eyes penetrated the small but deadly substance. The vial contained a white fog of miniscule antimatter that would consume anything. She glanced upwards, above the ladder.

She’d spent countless hours crafting a safehouse, now it was complete. She’d conjured up a special suit so the antimatter wouldn’t affect her. She’d be the only survivor. With one hand on the ladder, she tossed the vial nonchalantly. It splintered into thousands of shards, glittering like diamonds. The cloud of antimatter slid out. Pausing, she marvelled at her creation. She smiled, revealing teeth jagged with decay.

Beginning her climb, a faint gasp escaped her lips. The antimatter was stalking her, hunting her even with the suit. Puzzled, she looked down. A small tear in her pant-leg screamed danger. Panic rose in her throat as she realised that fragments of glass had cut her suit. She clawed desperately at the ladder, but it was too late. The antimatter’s tentacles hooked on, devouring her body cell by cell. She screamed in agony, her face distorted with rage. She’d failed. Her body disappeared into a cloud of white dust.
