Welcome back to Term 3. This term our main event is Winter Tournament which is being held on Friday 19th August. All sports start up again this week if not already playing.

This term our main event is Winter Tournament which is being held on Friday 19th August.

All trials should be complete this week and teams will be named next week, once the teams have been confirmed emails will go home with more details about the day.

There are 9 sports running for Winter Tournament:

Badminton, Basketball, Football, Hockey, MTB, Netball, Rugby, Table Tennis, Volleyball.

Interschool Cross Country Results

Last term saw our top 16 runners in each year group go through to the Interschool Cross Country which is held out at Rabbit Island over a 2.2km challenging course with hills, logs and drops to race over. Again our WIS students did very well and showed great RISE values while out at the event. 

I would personally like to thanks Jon and Karen Linyard for running this event and helping set up the great course that our runners love. 

Here are our runners that managed to finish in the top 10 and have qualified for the Tasman Team that will go and compete later in the term against some of the best runners in the South Island.

Yr7 Girls: Hazel Hunt 1st

Yr7 Boys: Ethan Clarke 5th, Eli Sinclair 8th, Sam Bryant 10th

Yr8 Girls: Maddie Gill 1st, Ava Lausen 3rd, Taylor Clements 4th, Petra Lukey 6th

Yr8 Boys: Oliver Costley 2nd, Finn Pickering 6th

School Fun Run

We also held our Fun Run and Spiral relay in the last week of term. It was great to be able to get the students out and get them to complete a 1km course around the school with obstacles that you had to go under over and through.

Thanks to Tim King (Tasman Mayor), Sam Gale (ex student and One of NZ top Down Hill racers), Jaxon Taikato (ex student, NZ U20 mixed Touch player), Neve Anglesey (ex Student, Tasman Women Mako) who came along to support our runners and hand out Spot Prizes, also our great Waimea College students that came over to help out on the course.

Also a big thank you to Tasman Bay Juices for the juices, ASB bank Richmond for drink bottles and the Aquatic Centre for Rave Wave passes. These were all given out to our runners as spot prizes on the day.

School Cross Country League

Athletics Nelson are again hosting the Nelson Schools Cross-country League.
There will be a series of four races throughout the winter for schools to lay claim to the annual trophies.

Rippa Tournament

Last term we sent 4 teams to the Port Nelson Rippa Tournament held at Green Meadows in Stoke. This had been postponed twice so was a long wait but well worth it.

Great to see so many playing and enjoying the day.

Congratuations

To Seth Jellyman, Juandre Visser & Liam Visser who have made it into the southern region inline hockey team, and over the holidays competed in Whanganui for inter regionals. After a long hard four days of competition they come away with 3rd place, bringing home a bronze medal.
