On Wednesday 29th July, the Waimea Intermediate chess team competed in one of the Chess Power regional senior competitions at Saint Joseph's School.

The team consisted of five players including: Jaxon Hogg, Eli Newton, Jerome Sinclair, Aiden McMillan and Jett Nicol. 

There were around five different Intermediates and around five Colleges who took part, each having four or more players. Everyone played seven games with a few having a bye. It went from 9:00am-3:00pm. 

Waimea Intermediate competed well and finished first overall earning a place in the team nationals in Auckland in October. 

Well done to Jaxon and Aiden for qualifying for the individual nationals the day after the team event. Jaxon got second overall and Aiden got third equal. Second place was Prep, with Nelson Intermediate finishing in third. It was a tough seven games and everyone played well.
