Kia ora e ngā whānau,
Winter Tournament and Bohally Intermediate Billets- It’s all go!
Yesterday the whole school welcomed Bohally Intermediate School into our community with a Haka Powhiri. The students have been practicing for this welcome all term under the expertise and guidance of Tania Alesana. Thanks to our families for opening their homes to billet the students during this exchange. We hope that you have a wonderful time this week.
Social Media Celebrations
In the last newsletter, I included a piece on age restrictions for social media use. This follows up on the curriculum work teachers have been undertaking with our students, supported by the Life Education bus and Harold. I am pleased to hear of some very positive parent stories that have been shared with me about the positive interactions they have seen on their child’s social media account (after checking it out). There was also one story of several students standing up to a student who was not using social media positively, by letting them know that what they were doing wasn’t going to be tolerated. Well done to those involved in this, it shows great integrity. Unfortunately, as in many cases, it is a small number of people who need a greater level of support in choosing the right way to behave and interact. It’s great to know that we have students who are strong enough to provide others with such support. For more information you can visit the Netsafe website link https://www.netsafe.org.nz/
Science Fair 2019
Next week, the school hall will be full of this year’s finalists in our 2019 Science Fair. Syndicates have been reviewing their science fair projects and will be entering the best of these to be displayed in the hall for our school wide competition. Last term, I was fortunate to be invited to attend Kakano’s science fair and was amazed at the scope, depth of understanding and variety of topics. I could have spent hours reading the projects and asking the students questions. They were very knowledgeable about their topics. It will be great to see other students’ efforts as well next week.
Room 10 Conquers Mt Robert
Last Thursday, Room 10 left their schoolbooks behind and took an early bus trip up to Lake Rotoiti. Their mission was to climb Mt Robert. Room 10 students have been working towards this trip for a while, training hard and learning about the area and general tramping safety. They did a fantastic job of jollying each other along. Although they were in the snow, they had beautiful blue, clear skies and very little wind at the top. A great day was had by all. Well done to everyone involved, especially the parents and teachers (Mrs Parker and Mr Strachan) for making this possible. Also, a big thanks to everyone who loaned tramping gear to enable all students to take part. The photo at the top of this newsletter was taken at the top.
Please Lock Scooters and Bikes
Great to see an increase in the number of students locking their scooters and bikes after the recent communication around this matter. Thanks for your continued support.
