WIS Sports

Jemma Taikato —

MOUNTAIN BIKING NATIONALS

We had two WIS students compete in their 1st National Schools Event in the first week of the holidays.

The event was hosted by MTB Otago and attracted over 400 riders from 110 different schools nationwide, with riders facing the demanding test of riding Signal Hill, then made more challenging with wet, slippery muddy conditions for the Downhill races.

Lucas Malham a Yr7, competed well in all 3 events; stage 5 Enduro, Downhill and Cross Country races. He finished an impressive 5th overall in the U13 Boys.

Finn Botica a Yr7, competed well in the Enduro and was to do the Downhill too - until a hard crash on stage 5 put him out for the rest of the weekend.

Both boys and their families learnt a lot about these kinds of events and were really well supported by the wider Nelson supporters and riders.

WELL DONE BOYS!

CRICKET

On Wednesday last term we had our WIS Boys and Girls NZ Cup cricket teams play Bohally.

The boys bowled Bohally out for 84 and chased it down in 9 overs for the win, using only 3 batsman. It was an impressive batting display from Carl Quinn who scored 62 runs not out.

The girls batted first and got  135 runs which then set Bohally a challenging task, our WIS girls bowled Bohally out for 27 to take the win.

Both teams are now heading down to play a tournament in Christchurch in a few weeks.

Well done and Good luck to you.
