International Students
Waimea Intermediate - February 13, 2016
The focus is on English language and future learning. Local students gain increased understanding of other cultures and values from mixing and learning with these students. Waimea Intermediate considers applications from international students. Details are available upon request.
The school observes and supports the New Zealand Code of Practice for international students.
Why Waimea Intermediate School is Special
At Waimea Intermediate our students feel safe and secure. Students and teachers experience happy and friendly relationships; and international students are warmly welcomed into the New Zealand school environment.
Homestays
Our Homestays are within walking distance of the Intermediate unless you request rural accommodation. Our host families are
well supported by the school and welcome you into their homes because they want to get to know you and invite you to be part
of their family.
Orientation
In your first week at Waimea Intermediate, you will be ‘buddied’ with a few students who will look out for you and help with
your orientation, along with school staff. The International Co-ordinator will spend time helping you at the start and check-in
with you regularly.
International Staff
We have an experienced and professional staff to take care of you. The door is always open to our students. We are
compassionate, caring, firm and fair.
English Language
Teachers will support you in your English studies and we have Teacher Aides who will put special teaching time aside to support
your language development which will be relevant to your needs.
Student Camps
Every second year each class spends a week together in a remoter part of New Zealand. A fabulous way to see more of our
wonderful country and build a rapport with your classmates.
Encouragement to say YES!
There are many opportunities available to you at Waimea Intermediate. We make sure you are informed about each of these -
academic, sporting, cultural, arts and musical. We will encourage you to take up the challenge and try something new.
