Pretty Smart Presentation

Trish Smith —

Last week our Year 7 and 8 girls attended a presentation designed to raise their awareness about misconceptions around body image and to equip them with critical thinking. It also discussed how to navigate media & social images and understand what’s real and what’s not. The talk was well received and appreciated by staff and students. Included below are some comments from those who attended the presentation as well as a link from the presenter, Angela Barnett.

I thought the talk was excellent and appealed to all. There was an awesome mix of talking and images to get the message across. The message was strong but not overbearing. I enjoyed it. The girls thought it was awesome too.

My girls were really positive about the talk they said it was helpful and interesting.

I thought it was excellent. It really reinforced how we need to think about and analyse images that are presented to us.

Just wanted to add that the talk about body image etc yesterday sounds like it was VERY good and valuable, my daughter was very positive about it and came away with a lot of good information and interest. Such an important topic that I feel strongly about, so please pass on my feedback to whoever organised it- great job WIS👍

Hello parents

Last week your daughter was at a Pretty Smart presentation, teaching them how to see through all the images bombarding their confidence - in the media, around them, and on their social feeds. Pretty Smart has prepared an easy, three-page handout for you to go through with your daughter to reinforce some of the messages heard, especially in relation to being kind to each other about appearance.

You will find the hand out here: http://bit.ly/2zs8yHQ
