Manu tukutuku (kites)

Shelley Roberts —

were sometimes used to welcome the Matariki star cluster. They can be a symbol of connection between us, the earth and the stars.

R14 students used a combination of traditional and more modern materials to create manu tukutuku to finish off our learning around Matariki. We have been looking at the names and meanings of the 7 stars which are visible to us locally, as well as the others in the star cluster. After discussing our moemoeā (wishes) and kaikōhau (expressions of hope) for the year ahead, we incorporated these into our designs.
