Waipāhīhī once again hosted the Taupō Regional Chess Tournament on Thursday 24th August with 73 players entered from across Taupō, Rotorua and Bay of Plenty.

For the second time this year Waipāhīhī hosted the Chess Power tournament with 73 participants competing in rookie, junior, intermediate and senior divisions. It was a fantastic day filled with challenging games and a whole lot of new learning.

A team of 26 students represented Waipāhīhī across the junior and rookies divisions, 13 who had a go for the first time. Consisting of 7 games across the day, all students involved represented the school amazingly and had a great day. 

We look forward to this sport continuing to grow across the school and giving others the opportunity to participate next year.
