Understanding the Effects of Overseas Travel on Education
Regular attendance is crucial for learning success. It is important to be well informed about the potential impact of overseas travel during term time on your child's education.
We know that regular attendance is crucial for student success and impacts a students learning journey significantly. Consistent attendance helps students build routines, stay engaged in lessons, and develop and sustain important connections and social skills.
We have a number of families who are currently considering travel during term time or are already absent due to overseas holidays and while we understand that travel provides cultural insights, and can maintain important family connections, we must also be mindful of the impact this has on teaching and learning and balance our decision making accordingly.
At Waipāhīhī teachers work hard to create enriching educational experiences and provide a teaching framework that builds on prior knowledge and understanding. Long periods of time away from school is certain to affect a student's ability to engage in content and could impact on progress and achievement. Parents and guardians play a crucial role in supporting a student's attendance and ensuring that any absences are planned and minimised.
If you wish to discuss this further before making a decision about potential travel during term time any member of our senior leadership team, Mands, Jen or Tim are available if you contact the office and make a time to chat.
