Formal Opening
On Wednesday 7 March we gathered for the formal opening of our new building and spaces.
The morning started with Maaka, representing mana whenua, welcoming our many visitors and the school to the opening.
Kapa haka led by rōpū and Sonny responded with waiata after each speaker.
Catherine thanked all the people that had worked so hard on this project. She thanked them for their vision and their efforts in creating this valuable space that supports whānau and tamariki.
Steve spoke on behalf of the Board of Trustees. He told us how this new space opens up the walls of education and will let children flourish.
Two Wairakei children, Ottavia and Coco, spoke on behalf of the ākonga. They spoke about how the wonderful new building and space will help them and all tamariki.
To conclude the outside portion of the morning two brothers, Cooper and Kohen, cut the ribbon to open the new building.
Finally, it was celebration cake time. The adults headed into the staffroom, the children were all treated in their learning spaces with a cake.
This building and the spaces within are a valuable part of Wairakei kura and the wider community. We would be more than happy to show you around.
