Ruby and William represented us so well in the National Final of the Root to Tip cooking competition.

It was a great pleasure to see Ruby and Willy working so well together to produce some mighty fine food.

Up against 11 teams from across the country, Ruby and Willy representing Canterbury in their Wairakei uniform, worked solidly over 2 and a half hours, to prepare, cook, and present to the judges, their main and dessert - 2 servings of each. Their waste was also weighed at the end and sorted into edible and non-edible waste. This Root to Tip competition is about minimal waste and using the whole plant 🌱.

Although not placing in the top 3, the judges said that the dishes were of such a high quality across all 12 teams, that it was mere points that decided the placings. Wellington won with 87.5 points, and 2nd (Otago) and third (Hawkes Bay) placings were even on 87 points.
