ICT as Learning Tools in the Junior Team
A range of learning tools are provided for children to use across the school. These may be in the form of traditional tools, or increasingly different technology tools such as iPads, chromebooks, desktop computers, interactive whiteboards and screens and video and musical equipment.
The Board of Trustees at their last meeting, was shown some of the collaborative and creative work being achieved by our Year 2&3 children using some of these learning tools. The school preferred devices to lease or purchase are always going to be portable devices as these provide the most versatile uses for the different ages and stages of our children.
Some people have asked me why Intermediates and High Schools have Chromebooks or ultraportable laptops as preferred BYOD devices rather than tablets or iPads. This is mainly because most children have their cellphone with them, with which they upload their photos, sounds, movies, dictations, etc. to their keyboard/screen device.
At primary schools, cellphones are actively discouraged from being brought to school. This is where the tablet/iPad comes in, as it is the ultimate all in one portable device being able to take photos, film videos, record sound and voice.
It is great seeing all of our school owned devices being used, alongside the devices brought to school as part of BYOD.
