Te Tau Hou Māori/The Māori New Year

Melissa Scarlett —

This term we will be celebrating the beginning of the Māori New Year. Ko Matariki te Tohu o te Tau Hou /. Matariki is the sign of the Māori New Year. The star constellation begins to rise this year between the 2nd and 3rd of Hūrae.

We will be celebrating Matariki on Rāhina 5 Hūrae/Monday 5th July.

Nau mai, haere mai, we would like to warmly invite all whānau to join us for karakia, waiata to open our day and following this, a whānau parakuihi / breakfast. Shane will be cooking up a storm of bacon butties - mmmm namunamuā / tasty!

If any whānau are able to come down and tautoko / assist Shane on the barbecue this would be greatly appreciated.

Our tamariki will be involved in a variety of Matariki activities throughout the day including, flax weaving, string making from Ti Kouka, Maori games,  kite making etc.

Please click this link if you would link some information for the harakeke or stringmaking workshops and sign up form.
