Emilie Donald, Georgia Baker and Faith Thacker —

On Wednesday 16th of June, Strum, Strike, Blow was held at Christchurch Arena. Ukulele, Recorder and Marimba players from Wairakei and other Christchurch schools performed.1,200 kids attended and performed an instrument.

Our musicians had been practicing hard since the start of the year with the help of our tutors Mary Chetty, Philippa Brocklehurst and Gabe Baird.

Some Marimba and Recorder pieces were: Strumshine, Timu, Banuwa, March of the Children, Fresco and Hidden Treasure. Ukuleles played and sung: Glitter, We are one, The Seagull Song, Aroha I Aotearoa, Starship Lullaby, Strumshine, Timu, Banuwa.

It was a really fun and energetic night with all the parents and whanau supporting us while we played. We also had a band come and help with the music and “Kaboom Percussion” came and played their homemade percussion instrument out of bottles. Here is a link to a youtube video of Kaboom Percussion: Kaboom percussion video.
