Cyclone Gita devastates ACTS Community School in Tonga
Beki O'Dey, our Wairakei teacher who moved with her family to Tonga at the beginning of 2017, has shared some photos of the devastation in Tonga after Cyclone Gita hit last night.
I have received some photos from Beki of her school. It has lost the whole roof, and some walls. There is widespread damage in the area the school is situated. Even though Beki and Tas's house is in the same area, fortunately, the house is a solid block house, and although there is a lot of devastation all around, there house is safe and stable. The children are fine and have already started helping out in the community to clear up.
I have added a couple of photos of other areas around the school, and they contrast the ones I took when my son and I visited Beki last May.
We are going to have a mufti day this Friday where we will collect a donation to help the school in replenishing some of the equipment they have lost.
Please come in bright pacific or beach theme clothes with a gold coin donation and it will be collected in the teams at the beginning of the day.
