Over the last two weeks our tauira(students) have been involved in swimming lessons at Jellie Park. The above photo displays water safety in action.

We as kaiako(teachers) have been delighted to take our tauira to Jellie Park and observe their swimming skills develop. The behaviour of our students has been absolutely brilliant! Year 5 and 6 tauira have certainly displayed our  Wairakei School values of Aroha, Empathy and Respect when looking after their little buddies.  It has been an excellent opportunity for our Year 1 and 2s to develop their self-management skills by dressing themselves before and after swimming, and  being responsible for their belongings. Another highlight has been observing those tauira who are apprehensive about being in water develop their confidence.
