Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori

Melissa Scarlett —

Kia ora e te whānau, i tēnei wiki Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori. This week is Māori Language Week. It is an exciting week with the Tūhono whakataetae (competition) this Friday! Karawhiua, Te Rōpū o Te Kura o Wairakei! Wishing you all the very best, go for it!

Throughout the  week the tamariki will be engaging in a variety of Te Reo Māori language activities. While we integrate Te Reo into our learning programmes on a day to day basis, this  week in particular, is dedicated to Te Reo Māori across our country. If you are interested in trying some Te Reo Māori at home with your tamariki here is a link below that has some common phrases and words  https://www.tetaurawhiri.govt.nz/rauemi-a-ipurangi/.

Our Kapa haka rōpū are busy practicing for Tūhono which is being held at Cowles Stadium on Friday, at 4:30pm. Tickets may still be available https://www.evenbrite.co.nz/e/junior-tuhono-kapa-haka-festival-tickets-66794896333 or www.eventbrite.co.nz/o/steve-reid-24773181825.  We are competing in the Junior section of the whakataetae. If your child is involved in the performance a reminder letter was sent home last Friday. We would be very grateful for extra parent help to do hair for the girls and make up. Transport to Cowles Stadium is also required, there is a form to fill out if you can accommodate us. Please ensure your child stays at school on Friday, as we need to prepare and we will be leaving school at 3:45pm or before to make it on time. Boys(tama mā) will be required to wear their navy blue school shorts for the performance. Girls(kotiro mā) will be given their uniforms on the day. Please ensure your daughter has their own hairbrush, hairspray, black hairties and hairpins. The performances will finish at 5:30pm and parents will need to pick their children up from Cowles Stadium at this time.

Last year we won The Hoani Trophy and have also had previous awards. We are lucky to have Matua Sonny and Tuahine Tui teaching our amazing tamariki. Kia pai ō koutou wiki(Have a great week)!

Ngā mihi nui
