Wairakei students among best coders in Canterbury.

Rod Newton —

Wairakei School students are being recognised for their outstanding digital design skills. They are taking on the best that Canterbury has to offer.

This week, on the 13th of November, 4 Wairakei students will attend the Canterbury DigiAwards celebration evening. The DigiAwards is a competition run each year that enables primary and intermediate students from throughout Canterbury to design, develop, and showcase their digital outcomes. The event encourages and celebrates the digital creativity of students.

Congratulations to Leah who is a finalist in the website category and to Anika, Katie and Rilee who are finalists in the coding and robotics category. This year they had more than 400 entries from across the South Island, so these students to be finalists is a major achievement. Many students from the Wairere team worked on digital outcomes to enter in the competition. There were a wide range of entries and many that we were very proud of. Wairakei School is developing some  amazing computer coders. We are very lucky to have professionals volunteer every Friday to support our code club and help take our students to the next level.

We look forward to the awards evening and taking the opportunity to celebrate some high achieving Wairakei School students.
