Our Wairakei Technology Leaders were super excited to have their first workshop at one of our cool CoL schools, Breens Intermediate.
On Friday, Week 7, Mrs Jackson filled the school van with our eight Technology Leaders, Brooklyn, Gabriela, Sam, Imogen, Natalie, Julia, Sarah and Kobe and took them off to Breens.
They spent the afternoon with Breens Code Club students and their teachers working with Lego Mindstorm in the Digitech room.
Everyone had great success using the Mindstorm programme to programme their robots, telling them where to go and how to move about the room... there weren't too many crashes... Phil had the students working through fun challenges - the final one being a robot battle!! They had to make programmes for their robot to battle one-on-one in the battle ring!
"I'm enjoying experimenting with new software" says Kobe happily. "It's fun having the Breens students helping us."
There were also the 3D printers and new laser cutting machine to check out. The Wairakei children left feeling really excited to come back next week. They have two more workshops, and then will continue with workshops at Wairakei for the rest of the term. After that they will be ready to start sharing their knowledge with other Wairakei students.
