As part of the 'Orchards in Schools' programme a number of fruit trees have just been planted at school.
Mary, from 'Orchards in Schools' came to help us plant 4 pear trees, 4 plum trees, an apple tree and two feijoa bushes. A group of keen helpers assisted with the digging of the holes, carefully planting and staking of the trees.
It might be a season or two before we harvest fruit but the fruit trees will be a part of the school in the future. They contribute to the schools 'Enviro Ed' programme and complement our existing garden and established fruit trees.
We are fortunate to be part of the Orchards in Schools programme as they will help with the future pruning and maintenance of the trees.
A fun morning was had by all and a lot of knowledge and skills were gained!
