Welcome back to Term 3! Hopefully everyone has kept warm and dry and enjoyed the holidays. Children and teachers write articles about all the things we get up to at Wairakei, these are posted on the school website so be sure to keep up with all our news here.
Wairakei Variety Bash!
On Thursday 31st August at the Aurora Centre Wairakei students will hold a performance for our school community. More details of this will be provided closer to the time. Any parent help is very welcome, especially if there is anyone who can help with Chinese, Indian and Pasifika dance or costumes.
Inquiry
Our Semester 2 Inquiries will centre around Energy, with a focus on Dance over the first half of Term 3, and Technology in the second half. We will investigate renewable energy technologies and have some experts visit us at school to spark the children’s curiosity.
Sports
Winter sports will continue until the end of Week 4, although there is no Winter sports Week 1, as there is a NW Zone 1 Day Winter Tournament on Thursday 27th July.
After that, we will begin athletics training. Parent helpers are always appreciated for Athletics practice. If you feel you would like to support a teacher in this role or have previous experience in any events, please let us know. There will also be a couple of special sports days. The first will be a football day on the 1st of August, run by Mainland Sport. In Week 7 there are tennis sessions at school taken by the team from Waimairi Tennis Club. Check the school weekly newsletter for more about these opportunities for our school.
Uniform
Just a reminder that all children need to be wearing the correct uniform at all times. If you are short on any pieces then please visit the office as there are sometimes second-hand items available. Please name all clothing, there are a lot of unnamed items in lost property!
Stationery
Some of the children were getting low with books and other stationery at the end of last term. We will be reminding children to get stationery as needed, please send it along to school (named) as soon as possible to support their learning.
Learning conferences
We have had a very positive start to our learning conferences at the end of Term 2. We look forward to meeting with those that have booked for the Monday and Tuesday of Week 1, there are more conference times available if you have not booked online already. You can do this via www.schoolinterviews.co.nz, or ask one of us in Wairere to help.
As well as these opportunities, please feel free to make an appointment to see us and discuss your child’s learning anytime.
