Wai-iti Learning environment — Large group meeting area
Shane Buckner — April 30, 2017
After a term of disruption, the Wairere and Wai-iti Learning Communities moved into their new learning spaces today.
Our 1950's buildings have great heart, are solid and are an iconic Canterbury design. Our architect has ensured that the integral design of the veranda areas was retained, but with added flow and accessibility to learning environments more conducive to the teaching and learning style we have embraced over the last 3-4 years.
Each of the areas has a large group meeting space, small group teaching zones, breakout spaces, wet areas and active learning spaces. Over the next few weeks, the teaching teams will be developing the spaces into ways that suit them and the children.
You will notice enhanced lighting, heating and ventilation in each of the new spaces. New furniture has been purchased, and there is still some new equipment to go in as the teaching teams determine the differing needs. The Board of Trustees has worked hard to ensure that sufficient funds have been made available for these enhancements.
We are planning an "opening celebration" at the beginning of next term once the three blocks have been completed.
