Over 100 schools in the greater Christchurch area learn the same 10 songs in order to have the chance to perform at the annual Festival in the Horncastle Arena.
The theme for 2017 was "Whatever the Weather" so the Wairakei Senior Choir learnt songs scattered with rain, snow, sun and with the word weather in them! Our favourites were Blue Skies, Crowded House's classic Weather With You, and In the Bleak Mid-Winter/Winter Wonderland mash-up combining two popular songs. The choir used their Wairakei characteristic of working hard to learn these songs and they performed beautifully on Thursday 26th October. Keep up the good work!
A huge congratulations goes to Gabriela Cowell and Sarah McGowan who sang with the Junior Representative Choir. This year 5 and 6 group is auditioned and have extra practices for their extra singing parts. The representative choir spends time in their school holidays to prepare for this concert and perform every night during the festival.
Well done Gabriela and Sarah for being in this choir two years in a row!
