The Inside Story

A snapshot of the Wairere Team in action using their new learning space and environment.

The Wairere Team are settling into their new space.   There have been a number of wonderful learning experiences.  Read on to find out more....

Rugby League Tournament

This year we entered a rugby league team into Canterbury tournament.  It was an absolute pleasure taking this group.  They played to their absolutely brilliant best and did our school proud.  A special thank you to Devon Rigby for coaching the players and taking them to the tournament.

Cross Country

Last Friday we braved the elements and held our annual Senior Cross Country Event at Jellie Park.  This year 18 students are going through to North West Zones to represent Wairakei School.   It is a wonderful opportunity to challenge ourselves against other competitors within the Zone.  All the best for our students.

Enviro Education

Each week the children have an opportunity as part of the Enviro Education programme to learn something new about our school and community environment.  Everyday Mrs Catherine Parks strolls on in with her gumboots in hand,  assorted garden tools and the fish bucket filled with learning gems.  She is ready for action and providing some wonderful learning experiences for our students.

Kapahaka

Matua Sonny and Tui continue to provide our kura with a number of waiata-a-ringa, himene, haka and also continue their great mahi with mau rakau.

Cultural Experiences

On Friday the Wairere team delve into the 'Te Matauranga' programme.  It is about providing learning and cultural experiences for our students.  Last week we started our globe journey by learning about the Japanese culture.  The students made origami creations, craft activities and also sushi.  There were some graphic novels (comic books) written in Japanese for the students to view as well.

Finally,  Please feel free to call in and have a look around the Wairere space.  I'm sure you will be impressed.
