Catherine Parkes — November 23, 2017
On Wednesday 22 November we welcomed a number of members from the Canterbury Horticultural Society to tour our school's edible, flower and sensory gardens.
Members of the CHS were treated to a personal tour of our school gardens. They were able to view our large edible garden, tyre garden, sensory garden and also the garden which is part of the Ferndale School satellite unit.
The students who were selected as tour guides, gave each visitor a personal tour and explained aspects of the garden and our 'Enviro Ed' programme.
The Wairakei students and CHS members were joined by staff and students from the Ferndale Satellite unit. They proudly showed their garden.
The tour was followed by a delicious afternoon tea of scones and jam and fresh egg sandwiches, (ingredients for these from the school garden and our 4 hens!)
It was a wonderful afternoon of shared knowledge and expertise. It was an honour for our school to have the Canterbury Horticultural Society visit, on of the highlights of the 2017 school year.
