𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐑𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟕𝟐
Of the 1773 people who died by suspected suicide from 2019-2022, over 𝟕𝟐% were males. 𝐑𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟕𝟐 is to draw attention to this absurd fact. The Waitaki Boys’ Prefect and Wellbeing Teams want to make a difference, and we believe you can too!
𝐑𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟕𝟐 will be a relay for life course set up around the Waitaki Boys’ High School campus, over a 24hr period. 𝐑𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟕𝟐 will inspire active involvement, with everybody able to contribute, be it by running/walking one lap or joining a relay team.
Throughout the event, we hope to see an incredible amount of camaraderie and conversation, both essential elements to raise awareness and help people understand how severe the issue is. Student and community engagement will be core to 𝐑𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟕𝟐, and we believe that having feet on the ground is a real way to tackle a real problem.
By providing the framework for Waitaki Boys’ students and our wider Waitaki community to continually run a 3km loop around the school for 24 hours, this event will allow our community to take part in fundraising efforts and make a personal difference.
We have a clear goal; We want to draw attention to the absurd statistic that over 𝟕𝟐% of suicides in New Zealand are male, as well as providing a safe space at school over this period for members of the community to talk to each other and start some of the tougher conversations we sometimes struggle to have.
Our team are immensely proud to introduce this event and we invite all of your engagement and enthusiasm to join us in our ambition on 22/23 September.Stay tuned for further information and entry information!
