Darryl Paterson —

As we approach the middle of the academic year our focus is very much on our primary business and that is what is happening in the classroom.

The reality for our senior students is that despite it only being Term 2 the reality is they are in the middle of their academic year. We have just completed 17 weeks of school and there are only 18 to go before senior students go on study leave.

With that in mind I would encourage you to attend the Parent Teacher interviews next week as well as continuing to monitor your son’s progress on the Kamar portal. If you have any concerns about your son’s progress please contact his teacher by email in the first instance.

On June 13th we will be holding Parent Teacher interviews from 2.30pm – 8.30pm. These interviews are for both senior and junior students. You can book interviews on-line by going to www.schoolinterviews.co and entering the code pjaqu

Also - an information evening about what NCEA will look like in the future will be held in the staffroom at 7pm on next Tuesday the 18th June. I look forward to seeing you there. There are a lot of changes and mostly positive I believe.

A highlight of the year is always the Scrano cultural evenings and that is fast approaching. Houses have been busy practising and we look forward to a wonderful occasion again on the evenings of Thursday 20th and Friday 21st June. Tickets are on sale at the school office from Monday

Congratulations to a number of our Basketballers and Mr Cathcart on achieving a very creditable 12th in the recent national tournament. Year 10 student Sione Lea recently placed 3rd in the junior section at the very competitive Otago ‘Pasifika Voices’ competition. Well done, Sione. Also to those boys and Mr Hinds who are involved next week in the regional chamber Music competition - Good luck.

A friendly reminder about our current focus on the issue of lateness to school. Most lateness is occurring at the start of the day. School starts at 8.40am. If you could ensure that your young men are organised to get here by that time and be ready to learn when that bell goes that would be much appreciated.

Wishing everybody a lovely weekend and thank you for your continued support of Waitaki Boys’ High School.
