Flash Fiction Writing Workshop

Mrs S Woock, English Teacher —

A Flash Fiction Writing Workshop funded by the Matatuhi Foundation and the New Zealand Association of Teachers of English and facilitated by Lynda Scott Araya was held on 22 March for a group of interested Year 10, 11 and 12 students.

Students were taken through the process of how to write Flash Fiction and then given the opportunity to write under guidance. Feedback after the session was “There is some real talent in the group. Their ability to take a topic and write, in some cases, some thoughtful and well-constructed first drafts was amazing.”

National Flash Fiction Day is on the 22 June and the students were invited to enter the youth competition which is an international competition with free entry — guest judged in 2022 by Jack Remiel Cottrell and curated by the youth journal fingers comma toes. Winners and short-listed work will be published in a special edition of fingers comma toes.
