Safe Talk

Sophie McMillan-Sinclair, Katie Kinnaird and Emma Meikle —

On the 25th of July, 9 year 12 and 13 students from Waitaki Girls’ and Waitaki Boys’ took part in a SafeTalk workshop.

The workshop is designed to provide individuals with preparation and resources to assist with becoming safety connectors who are trained to recognise signs, engage someone in conversation and know how to connect them to an intervention resource who is trained to provide further support and keep them safe.

The course gave some extremely valuable information and guidance, with students learning how to approach the topic of mental health intervention and safety concerns. Learning how to act in situations they may encounter to help others and connect them to professionals for intervention. Jade Mitchell was our speaker from SafeTALK who came up from Dunedin to run the 4 hour course for us!
