Aoraki Tennis Championships

Ms Alisa Wynne, TIC Tennis —

The Waitaki Girls' Tennis team headed off to Timaru for the Aoraki Tennis Champs on Wednesday 17th February. With Timaru putting on some stunning weather, the girls each competed in teams of two to try to take out the top spot. We had two teams in the Cup grade and another in the Festival grade.

Katelyn Sime and Maddy Phillips played some great games in the festival grade and were remarkable representatives of WGHS.

Kate Mortimer and Emma Fox faced tough competition in their pool and played well throughout the day, coming out with some great wins.

Jordyn Phillips and Jorja Belt also played excellently. After winning their pool, they progressed to the semi finals, which they won, and managed to take out second place overall in the Girls' division.

The whole team was incredibly supportive of each other and combined with the beautiful weather, it made for some great competition. All players should be very proud of themselves and I suspect this is not the last we will see of Waitaki Girls' Tennis.
