In Remembrance of Marlene McKerrow

Waitaki Girls' High School —

The school was sad to hear of Marlene’s passing during the last school holidays and would like to recognise her contribution to Waitaki Girls’ High School.

Marlene will be remembered for the tireless work she did for our school during and after the years that her four daughters attended Waitaki Girls’. She was a member of various committees including the school PTA, the Futures Trust and the Old Girls'. She was also a Board of Trustees member for several years. She was proactive in fund-raising for whatever the school needed and especially for the new school pool.

Marlene was also a great support for two new Principals who came to Waitaki during that time. She helped Principal Jeanette Aker find her feet when she arrived in Oamaru and travelled to Europe with her when Jeanette was awarded a Woolf Fisher Scholarship. Marlene then worked with Principal Linda Cowan and travelled with her on a recruitment trip for international students. I know her support was much appreciated by both Principals.

As a new teacher to Waitaki Girls’, I remember Marlene’s energy and commitment to the school. She turned up everywhere and always worked with enthusiasm and passion, inspiring others to do the same.

We are very grateful for Marlene’s loyalty over many years and appreciate her commitment to school activities and projects. We will remember her with great affection.
