Mental Health and Wellbeing Training.

Mrs J Corlet, Guidance Counsellor —

This week the pastoral team of WGHS and our School Hostel Manager joined with the WBHS staff to participate in a training workshop called Mental Health 101.

The course was an opportunity to further develop confidence and skills to recognise , relate and respond to people experiencing mental health challenges. The second purpose of the workshop was to reduce stigma and discrimination towards people with mental health challenges.

The group learnt about recognising signs of mental wellbeing and of mental health challenges. How to use Te Whare Tapa Wha wellbeing model to support mental wellbeing. How to relate to what people with mental health challenges are experiencing. Then how to respond supportively to mental distress.
